Save Black Meadow Ridge

Save Black Meadow Ridge is a group of neighbors and community members in Durham, NC, USA, who have joined together to educate the public about a proposed housing development, its potential impact, and the need for a comprehensive review by the city.

We ask for your support  for our legal expenses. We have retained T.C. Morphis, Jr. with The Brough Law Firm to represent us, and seek donations towards the legal fees.

The proposed development includes 380 homes on 56 acres of land bordering the West Point on the Eno park - a 404-acre natural and historic park that is located along a 2-mile stretch of the scenic Eno River.  Currently there is no public review planned by the city.  We think a development of this size and impact needs a full comprehensive review, including public input from those who could be affected by the development.

There are real concerns about the impact of the development as it is currently planned, both during construction and long-term. The area already has problems with flooding and traffic. A new high school is going to be built across the street, and this will contribute more traffic. The city itself has identified tracts planned for development as priority parcels for wetland preservation. The Eno River is not only a very popular recreation destination, but feeds into Falls Lake (a source of water for Raleigh) so any development should be done in a way that doesn't pollute the river.

We appreciate any contributions, large or small.
