Hello! My name is Benjamin Brener Guimaraes, but you can call me Ben.
My parents are Tulio Guimaraes and Nathalie Guimaraes. I was born in Brazil on 04/30/2021. When I turned 3 months old, I was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, an autoimmune disease affecting 1 in every 10,000 babies worldwide.
Treatment is not easy but my parents are going above and beyond to save me. We also need your help! The gene therapy treatment that can save my life is called Zolgensma and it costs $2,200,000 USD. It is the most expensive treatment out there.

Hola! Mi nombre es Benjamin Brener Guimarães, me puedes llamar Ben. Soy hijo de Tulio y Nathalie. Nací en Maceio, Brasil el 30 de abril del 2021. El 30 de julio del 2021, a mis 3 meses, fui diagnosticado con una enfermedad genética degenerativa poco común llamada sindrome de AME, también conocida como atrofia muscular espinal del tipo 1.
Esta enfermdad se presenta en 1 de 10,000 niños nacidos. La enfermedad afecta los musculos de todo mi cuerpo. Cada dia que pasa, pierdo mas la capacidad de moverme y me está costando respirar sin ayuda.
El único tratamiento que me permitiría recuperarme y poder ganar mobilidad no fue aprobado por el seguro médico. Se trata de una terapia genética de una sola dosis llamada Zolgensma y es el medicamento mas caro del mundo a $2.2 millones de dólares. Para poder recuperarme y tener la oportunidad de vivir muchos años necesito de tu ayuda.
El costo es muy alto, pero nuestra fe es más grande.
Estoy viendo como mis seres queridos se unen para lograr salvarme la vida y eso me hace sonreír. Espero que puedas ayudar a mis papas en este camino conmigo.
