HELP SAVE BAXTER❤️ From the beginning, Baxter stole Jimmy’s heart! Jimmy is a disabled veteran, and Baxter, as his service dog, takes his job very seriously. They both share a deep and apparent connection. Jimmy brought Baxter in to see the veterinarian for a fatty tumor that had been getting quite large and had started impacting his quality of life. Jimmy wanted to do everything he could. The tumor was located deep in the muscle, which is very unusual for most fatty tumors. They were able to remove the bulk of the tumor but suspected that there was still tumor seeded deep in the muscle. The veterinarian said Baxter was a champ throughout the whole process! Jimmy was there for Baxter the entire time. He shared with us how much Baxter had helped him to heal as a veteran, so he wanted to be there for Baxter in kind. It took some time, but Baxter went prancing into his veterinarian wagging his tail during his recheck a few weeks later.
Unfortunately, as suspected, the tumor had indeed seeded deeper into the muscle... the tumor had started to grow back. The veterinarian took Baxter to surgery and discovered that the tumor had grown deeper into the body, pressing into his abdomen, and pushing aside organs. Simple surgery was not an option. The x-rays show that there is a mass in the abdomen, starting on the left side of the body, and extending into the middle of the abdomen. This mass is pushing the intestines, kidneys, and spleen to the right side. The radiologist is most suspicious that the mass is fatty, but given its size, location, and speed of growth, there is a possibility it could be a malignant fatty mass.
Baxter is one of those unique dogs that leaves an imprint on everyone he meets. He is smart, sweet, and a good boy! Anyone who can help Baxter and Jimmy would truly be helping a precious dog and his wonderful human.
