Save Basanti

Please help me save Basanti and reunite her with her family.

Caged and abused without any hope for a better life, Basanti lived each day in fear… until Anna stepped in, and vowed to keep her safe. I want to help her keep that promise and get Basanti home from India to the USA.

Help me bring Basanti home to her family.

She was weak and starving when someone brought her to the yoga studio in town with the intentions of keeping her safe. But soon after, Basanti found herself at the mercy of young boys, held captive and picked on without being able to defend herself.

When the boys would come by, she’d lift her head to look at them. They’d look back and reach their hands down to her, and sometimes she’d even wag her tail. But instead of petting her or offering food, they’d grab her by the head and fling her through the air. They’d kick her and punch her and pull her tail.

By the time Anna found her, Basanti had been abused for a few days. She was horrified, demanded for them to stop, and when they didn’t, she stepped in, picked Basanti up, and took her home, promising to keep her safe.

Her chance at a new life.

Basanti is 6 months old, born in rural India outside of New Delhi. Despite suffering constant abuse, she is sweet, playful, and forgiving. Anna took her to the safety of her apartment. She fed her and made her a toy of ropes. She gave Basanti the companionship she desperately wanted. Most importantly, she kept her safe. In the short time Anna’s known her, she’s fallen in love and knew that Basanti couldn’t go back to the life she lived before. Now Anna wants to bring her home to the USA where she will never have to fear for her life again.

Please help me get her there.

In order to meet government regulations, Basanti must undergo a quarantine period, necessary vaccinations, and formal export and import permits. But Anna had to leave India. She reached out to anyone who may be able to help save her. She met someone to guide her through the export process, which she started immediately. She researched veterinarians and boarding facilities. She searched for flight volunteers to fly her home when she’d be ready. But when someone found Basanti outside Anna’s apartment and tried to beat her again, we decided we couldn’t wait any longer.

Help me fly to New Delhi to get her.

I’m planning to fly to New Delhi at the end of August to pick Basanti up and fly her home to the USA, where Anna’s family will be waiting. Your donation will help me cover airfare, Basanti’s flight fee and crate, her export and import costs, the boarding costs while she’s in India with a trusted pet-sitter, and a full vet exam as soon as she arrives in the USA. Basanti’s family is helping with additional costs and will help cover where we fall short – but it’s a lot. Saving animals isn’t cheap. But it’s worth it. We need help.

Any donation amount helps.  Let’s get Basanti home.
