Help Baby Davina Fight the Biggest Battle of Her Life

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, what started as a simple trip to urgent care for my 6-month-old daughter Davina’s cough and wheezing quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare.

Urgent care sent us straight to the ER when they saw her oxygen levels dropping. When we arrived, her oxygen was already down to 93. While we were there, it dropped even further to 80 before they rushed to put oxygen on her.

At first, doctors thought it might just be RSV and that she would need to stay in the hospital for a few days. They ordered a chest X-ray. Within seconds of the X-ray being taken, the doctor immediately ordered a CT scan. Something wasn’t right.

When Davina wanted to eat and they told me she couldn’t, my heart sank. I knew then that something was terribly wrong.

When the results came back, the doctor walked in and told me words no parent is ever prepared to hear: Davina needed to be life-flighted immediately to Riley Children’s Hospital.

He told me he didn’t understand how she was still smiling, alert, and acting like a happy baby… because what they found inside her body was massive.

Davina has a large mass that has taken over the entire right side of her chest. It has completely filled the right side of her lungs and spread into her ribs. The mass is now pushing everything in her body toward the left side, pressing on her heart and the little bit of her left lung that is still working.

The doctor told us she is an incredibly strong little girl because with the size of this mass, she shouldn’t even be alive right now.

During her first surgery, doctors removed 250 ml of fluid (about 2½ cups) from around the mass to send for testing. She currently has a tube in place to help drain fluid and support her breathing. She is sedated and doctors are closely monitoring her to see if her body can handle breathing without the tube.

Doctors are now trying to determine exactly what they are dealing with. If the mass has grown into her lungs, she may need part of her lung removed. They also still don’t know if the mass is cancerous.

As of March 6th, Davina is undergoing another major surgery. Doctors are performing both internal and external exploratory surgery, going underneath her ribs and lungs while also cutting through parts of her ribs to better understand the mass and how far it has spread.

They are hoping to perform a major surgery on Monday to remove the entire tumor if it is not cancerous. If it is cancerous, she will need to begin chemotherapy before they can attempt to remove it.

Because Davina is so small and the mass is so large, every surgery carries serious risks. Her lungs could collapse, and her heart could fail during these procedures. It’s something no family ever imagines facing with their baby.

Right now, Davina is still fighting. Even through all of this, she continues to show just how strong she is.

Davina has been a fighter since the day she was born. She spent a week and a half in the NICU due to blood sugar complications. At just two months old, she had surgery for hearing issues. She has also struggled to gain weight and at six months old still wears 0-3 month clothing. Doctors had already been running tests and preparing to send her to a specialist.

Now she is battling RSV on top of this massive tumor that has already taken over half of her tiny body.

Despite everything, Davina is still the sweetest, happiest, most beautiful little girl. She is fighting with everything she has.

Our family is asking for help during this unimaginable time. Davina’s dad is the sole provider for our family, and he will have to take time off work to be here for her. Without his income, we will struggle to cover basic needs.

Funds raised will help with:
• Gas for traveling back and forth to the hospital while caring for our other children
• A place to stay near the hospital since the Ronald McDonald House currently has a long waiting list
• Bills and basic living expenses while dad is unable to work
• Supporting our family so we can focus fully on Davina and her recovery

Davina has a very long road ahead of her, and we are not even close to being out of the woods yet.

If you can help in any way, whether through a donation or simply sharing our story, it would mean the world to our family. Most importantly, we ask for your prayers for our strong baby girl.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Davina in her fight.
