Save Averie

When Averie was only 5 weeks old, upon examination, it was highly suspected he had Hydrocephalus. Unable to provide the care Averie would need, his breeder reached out to the one person he knew would offer support. When Jenna learned of Averie's fate and that he would likely be humanely euthanized, without hesitation, she said, "I'll take him!". Working as a veterinary technician for 15 years and known by her peers as "The Chihuahua Whisperer", Jenna set out to give Averie the best possible palliative care. She was determined to allow this innocent 1-pound pup to live out the rest of his days comfortably and surrounded by love. His condition is terminal but ironically, Averie is full of life! With the watchful eye of Jenna, her family and friends, he is able to do what puppies do best: he runs, plays, snuggles, gives lots of kisses and loves his mama unconditionally. Having first-hand experience with caring for puppies inflicted with Hydrocephalus, after only a few short weeks, Jenna noticed that the progression of Averie's condition was not typical. Most puppies at this stage of Hydrocephalus would be exhibiting neurologic deficits but Averie was not. Jenna decided to consult with a veterinary neurologist seeking insight into Averie's case. She learned that the rare formation of Averie's skull was actually prolonging his life. However, his prognosis was poor. When the veterinary neurologist suggested consulting with a neurosurgeon from North Carolina State, Jenna pursued without hesitation. The surgeon said that Averie was a candidate for a procedure that potentially would extend his life by years. The life span for a hydrocephalic puppy is two years or less. Knowing she has the opportunity to amply prolong Averie's life, optimistically, Jenna scheduled the surgery and is planning to travel to North Carolina on Wednesday September 6, 2023. Savings from working two jobs and maxing out her Care Credit card will not cover the exorbitant expense of Averie's surgery, preoperative and postoperative care. In an attempt to secure Averie's fate, Jenna is humbly asking for support from her family, friends and community to raise funds. Kindly donate to Averie's Go Fund Me and join us at Revelation Craft Brewing Company's Beer Garden at Hudson Fields on Saturday July 15, 2023, 5-9 pm. Come enjoy Revelation's craft beers, SmashMouth Smash Burgers and live music by Stevie and Sandy D. General donations will be welcomed and other fundraising activities will be offered. Bring your family, friends (hooman and furry) and help Save Averie!
