Over this Labor Day weekend, my dearest friend has had to take her youngest baby, Augustus (Auggie) Rue, a 1-year-old blue heeler rescue, into Emergency care. X-rays and blood work have determined he has Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis, most likely as a result of eating something he shouldn't. This has caused a crippling bacterial infection. He has been in critical condition at the animal hospital since Sunday morning and his medical expenses have already exceeded $3000. Currently, Auggie is awaiting transfer to another facility in hopes of more affordable care, however he must remain in hospital care in order to live while he receives treatment.
Auggie Rue, has a mom, a dog sister—Sasha, and an 11-year-old hooman brother named Oliver, all who are madly in love with his special character and adoring companionship. He is in really bad shape and needing further medical care for what appears a hope-filled prognosis.
This family could really use some help to keep their Auggie alive and nurse him back to his adventurous loving self. Please share this story, any help, love, and support is so greatly appreciated. I know it has been a hard year for most, so everything helps!
Sending love light and gratitude to all. Update!! 9/9/2020 from Lisa: Breaking news! Auggie is home for the night and asleep in my bed His vitals are strong, he’s fully hydrated, and he’s out-patient (just for the night) to improve morale. The Doctor said he wants him back first thing in the morning but if we were up for taking him outside frequently throughout the night and administering anti-nausea meds, he thinks it could make a huge difference in his recovery to be somewhere with familiar faces where he can fully rest. Before he called me, He was able to get a teaspoon of food in him (willingly) and his diarrhea was less frequent. Augustus was pretty enthusiastic for the first ten minutes of our drive home looking out the window and insisting on sitting by himself, but he looked rough by the time we got here. The biggest thing is that he was not resting in the hospital. He is currently SO soundly asleep that he hasn’t woken up through multiple shifts in the beds inhabitants. He wagged his tail at and walked over to greet his brother, licked my brother in the face, and growled at Oliver, so things are feeling almost normal I keep saying it (mostly to remind myself) that we are not out of the woods but this is progress. I am so grateful for a Veterinarian who recognized that he was depressed and not resting AND more importantly weighed those factors as a part of his treatment. ♥️ He still has his IV catheter in his leg, ready to go back in at the hospital tomorrow but for now he’s home! Sigh.
