ATOMIC Ballroom is a second home to our dance community, family of world class instructors, supportive desk staff, and incredible students from all walks of life. Today, we need your support.
ATOMIC Ballroom is a small family owned brick and mortar social dance studio in Irvine, CA owned by myself, Nikki Marvin and my husband Shesha Marvin. We occupy four suites with 8 rooms/dance floors that are all currently empty. We closed our doors in March and will remain closed until the California Governor informs us that it is safe to re-open with safety precautions. The close, hands on nature of a social dance studio puts us in a position of opening later rather than sooner.
ATOMIC Ballroom offers large group and private dance classes and social dancing in Lindy Hop Swing Dancing, Argentine Tango, Salsa, Bachata, Country, West Coast Swing, and all the social Ballroom dances. We also offer solo dance classes including Tap, Belly Dancing, Burlesque, Hip Hop and more.
Currently we are hosting online live stream classes but these classes do not generate the income that it takes to maintain four suites in Irvine and payroll for teachers who are continuing to teach online. These classes are more of a moral boost for the community and a way for our students to keep dancing because as Shesha says, "All the world's a dance floor."
We DESPERATELY need HELP to ensure that we are able to re-open.
The main goal is to endure until we can re-open. It's become clear as the Stay at Home order has continued, that when we are able to re-open we will have to start small and use strategies to re-envision the use of our space. We are confident that eventually we will be able to come back to our famously large group classes and social dances, but until it's safe we will have to focus on private lessons, and small groups that don't rotate partners.
Our leasing company, who is a small business themselves, is unable to offer us any help with our leases. Irvine is, after all, one of California's most expensive cities to operate a business.
We are at a loss of what else to do. We are looking to you, our community members, in our time of need. It pains us to ask for support in this way but we are out of options.
On average, during normal times, ATOMIC's operating costs are about $100,000 per month. Much of our studio income is from our Annual Red Tag Sale in March and the COVID-19 closure interrupted our sales cycle. Your support will go towards sustaining ATOMIC Ballroom until we are able to re-open and then to help us with operational costs needed to bring the staff back to the studio.
