Trinity United Methodist Church in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts Needs Your Help!
Trinity United Methodist Church in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts is a historic church built in 1841 that is in need of serious steeple repairs that are estimated to cost $85,000. The church applied for and qualified for a matching grant from the Massachusetts Historic Commission for $20,000, but when the church received the bid for the repair, it was well over double the combined $40,00, a total of $85,000.
The church needs to raise $40,000 before the end of February to save the grant and get the steeple fixed to prevent further water damage to the historic structure and to preserve it for future generations.
Trinity United Methodist Church is the most prominent structure in the historic center of Ashley Falls, MA. It was the first church built in Ashley Falls and represents a long and continuous tradition of worship and community involvement. The church was built in 1841 in the Greek Revival style. The proportions and clean lines adhere strictly to the features of Greek Revival. The belfry features two tiers. The lower tier has two Doric columns in antis on the. south, east, and north faces, flanking green shuttered openings. The main (east) facade has two Doric columns in antis flanking the main door recessed in a shallow porch. The new steps are the full width of the entry porch. Two pilasters flank the entry porch. The church became incorporated in 1992 and continues to be an important presence in the community. During the work, the carpenters discovered a sign in the belfry stating that the bell had been installed July 31, 1868. The bell had been cast in Troy, New York for $320 with the final installed price being $361.00.
From 5 dinners a year, a craft fair, a tag and bake sale and bag sale, Trinity UMC works to maintain our connection with the community. The church social hall next to the church hosts a number of different meetings and activities throughout the year. To lose the viability of the church, and thus the church congregation, would be a crushing blow to the historic village of Ashley Falls. Please help repair the steeple by donating what you can. Thank you and God bless!
