Save Archie: Medical Alert Dog Needs Surgery

Meet Archie!

He is my medical alert service dog. He has literally saved my life, and now he needs help.

The past few weeks, he has been limping and not able to be the crazy dog that he is. Because of this, he has been on pain meds, and finally today, we were able to get him in for X-rays. They want to do surgery called Bilateral Femoral Head Ostectomy. If you aren't a fan of medical stuff, skip here!

Medical Stuff:

From how it was described to us: His Femoral Head on both sides are misshapen. Not only are they grinding on his hips, both sides are slipping in and out of the sockets. On top of that, he has really bad knees on both sides. Archie just turned 4 this year, and it kills me that he is already in so much discomfort.

What we are doing in the meantime:

He is on pain meds, and he isn't able to jump up on furniture, run, or be on Dancing With The Stars. We will be setting him up with hydrotherapy to strengthen his knees as he will need those muscles to be strong for his surgery.

I give everything I can for my animals so that they can have a wonderful life. If you are able to help out with the expenses of his surgery, I would greatly appreciate it. I want him to be able to run and have the zoomies again and no longer be in pain.

Here's the breakdown of expenses:

- Medication every 2 weeks = $86

- Chiropractor initial appointment, 1 session, 1 laser treatment = $194 (I am unsure how many treatments he will need but will find out after his initial appointment.)

- Hydrotherapy 30 mins = $40 (Again will find out how often he needs to go after his next appointment.)

- X-rays = $800 estimate depending on if the surgery center needs more.

Surgery estimate:*

- If Bilateral Femoral Head Ostectomy $5,000

- If Hip replacement = $7,500 to $15,000 and must be done with 2 separate surgeries.

* I'm told, due to his size, that a total hip replacement on both sides may serve him better. After the surgery center does their X-rays I will know for sure.
