Hello everyone. It is with a heavy heart that my sweet baby Apollo has been emergency hospitalized for Anemia. Apollo is my darling 7-year-old angel pitty. I have been blessed with 5 amazing years with my sweet ball of energy and I am hoping to have many more. I adopted Apollo from Lifeline Animal Project in Atlanta, GA back in 2020 and he has been glued to my side ever since. Apollo has had a rough go since the start as he was involved in dog fighting before I rescued him in my third year of college. Regardless, he has never been anything short of the sweetest, most gentle-hearted, and happy dog I have ever met. Apollo is truly my best friend in this entire world and we have been through many trials and tribulations together. I cannot imagine a world without my sweet bum .
Unfortunately, on Thursday (10/2), I realized that he was going into respiratory distress and had very pale gums. I immediately rushed him to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Lawrenceville, GA where he was diagnosed with severely low red blood cell and platelet counts. He received a diagnosis of severe anemia and was discharged to go home with strict supervision until he could see a specialist on Tuesday (10/7). Unfortunately, late Friday night (10/4), his condition quickly took a turn for the worse and he was rushed back up to the emergency veterinary hospital. Currently, Apollo has been admitted to Blue Pearl Emergency Animal Hospital in Sandy Springs, GA as an ICU patient. He is awaiting test results to confirm an IMHA diagnosis and treatment for this severe form of anemia. Unfortunately, this process has been very taxing on my husband and me both emotionally and financially. Apollo has received many different diagnostic tests including ultrasounds and x-rays to confirm a definitive diagnosis for his anemic state. We are still awaiting his test results to form the best treatment plan to help my sweet baby recover. It is suspected that Apollo has IMHA, which is a severe and life-threatening form of anemia. However, it is a disease that many dogs have been diagnosed with and recovered from as it can be manageable with medication. It is very upsetting to me to think about losing my baby to a disease that can be managed and go into complete remission due to the financial burden. As with any medical testing, it has been quite expensive and will take days to get definitive answers and treatment.
The current goal of this GoFundMe only accounts for what has currently been paid and quoted for us by the vet and could continue to rise depending on how many days Apollo must be hospitalized and his treatment plan. I know times are rough for many of us right now but anything is truly and deeply appreciated by my husband and me as well as my sweet baby. We just got married and our first house (which I searched for months to find a private backyard for my baby to zoom around in). I am currently unemployed but aggressively searching for employment. Due to these circumstances, we’ve just about exhausted our financial availability to afford Apollo's treatment and hospitalization. Anything is appreciated deeply and I will be posting the current bills that we have received for Apollo's care as well as updates about my sweet boy's condition and progress. Please help us save Apollo and thank you for anything that you can do to help us during this very rough time.
I have attached his current hospitalization and treatment bills as an image. Funds received will go directly towards the cost of his treatment as well as the costs of his future treatments as he will have to have frequent rechecks for his blood count and will be on medication for the rest of his life.
