My name is Antione Frye, and my family is in an urgent race against time to save our fur babies from being taken away and euthanized.
Since the sudden passing of my mother & father 10 days apart last year, my sister, close friend, aunt (mother's sister), and I have lived in our 3-story family home (6 units, plus full basement and gated front yard) as 4 separate tenants - each paying their own rent/bills on the leasing contract.
In Washington, DC, the legal amount of dogs AN INDIVIDUAL is allowed to own is six (6). Seven (7) or more, 4 months & over, require an animal hobby permit from the city.
I, myself, own six (6) dogs. My close friend adopted five (5) last year before moving in. My sister owns five (5) of her own puppies that are all under the age of 4 months, so they, legally, don't qualify to be taken by DC law.
We have all lived together as separate tenants in peace and harmony without issue or incident. The neighbors love the dogs and often look forward to seeing them daily. Each pet is not only cared for, but thrives in this household as they are always loved and tended to at all times. They even have their own unit/room in the house complete with a queen bed, AC, television, water/food, and more where they can all spend time together for play dates and sleepovers.
Unfortunately, on the 17th of April, we were visited by animal control in response to an anonymous call claiming that I, myself, "owned over the legal amount of pets." Despite explaining that we were all separate tenants, each owning under the legal amount of pets prior to needing a permit, I received a notice stating that I was to have "all dogs up to date on vaccinations, certified, and obtain an animal hobby permit by May 17th, 2025." Failure to do so will result in impoundment of all my babies, and they will be, quote: "disregarded at the shelter's discretion." Otherwise, they will be put down simply because they currently don't have space in DC shelters.
We are absolutely desperate for any help possible in order to get each one up to date, licensed, and dispute the notice considering we're all separate tenants with our own separate ownership of each pet. Despite this legal fact, we still want to obtain an animal hobby permit just to ensure full coverage & safety for our fur family.
Any and all donations will go towards their up-to-date vaccinations, DC Dog ID's, and obtaining the DC animal hobby permit in order to prevent any further legal discrepancies.
Please don't let our babies be taken, even worse, killed due to limited space when they are already happy and safe at home. They've helped our family through so much. It would mean the world to help them through this.
