Build a clinic to save animals in El Nido

EL Nido- A beautiful tropical paradise enjoyed by thousands every year, however if you look closely you will see there is a serious problem with animal welfare here.

Thousands of stray Dogs and Cats on the streets and beaches are continually looking for something to eat. These animals are often very thin, abused and in poor health. Skin diseases like Mange, STI's and Viral infections like Parvovirus  and Distemper are very common here. Locals and Tourists are sometimes bitten while walking on the beach, with the risk to contract rabies from unvaccinated animals.

The Covid-19 pandemic has made the situation even worse for stray animals as many heavily relied on food from tourists and as El Nido's main economy is Tourism many residents in El Nido have lost their lively hoods and are unable to provide for their animals as it is no longer a priority.

To reduce the stray Dog population here, some dog catching and kill campaigns have been organised by local agencies to combat overpopulation. Often we see puppies thrown away in trash bags or killed especially if they are females, only because people cannot afford to keep and look after them.

HOWEVER!
To us, sterilisation is the most efficient  and humane way to lessen the stray population, but these spay events and treatments are very expensive and most people cannot afford it.

We want to change this by opening a non profit clinic and hire a full time vet who can treat, spay and vaccinate Dogs and Cats. 

Our plans:

Phase 1: 
Start a (mobile) clinic/ surgery room for daily spaying, to rotate around each Barangay of El Nido. ( €5,000) 

Phase 2: 
Build a permanent clinic and shelter to hold animals who need more extensive and continuous care ( €10,000-15,000) 

Help us save lives, lessen the stray population and eradicate common diseases by donating to buy important equipment, medication and hire a full time veterinarian. This will help the El Nido community  to become an animal friendly place which is safer for everyone and gives these animals a better quality of life.

Our biggest expenses will be:
Medication for start up (anaesthesia/antibiotics/vaccines..): €3500 (200,000 PHP)
Equipment basic: €1000 (57,000 PHP)
Salary for the vet: €500 a month (30,000 PHP)


Anaesthesia: €18 for 1 bottle (24kg dog or cats)
Spaying cost for 1 female dog: Average of €10 for antibiotics, anaesthesia, anti rabies vaccination and ear tattoo

We also put your donations towards the rescue and treatment of stray Dogs and Cats as well as Dog feeding programs


ABOUT US:

We are a group of animal lovers, locals and expats, living in El Nido Palawan. We are working in partnership with Palawan Animal Welfare Foundation to help stray Dogs and Cats and lessen their population.

We are rescuing and rehabilitating strays by giving them food/medicine where we can or for more serious cases sending them to the foundation in Puerto Princesa (5 hours away) which is very stressful for an injured or sick animal. 



With the help of the foundation, volunteers from El Nido and local Barangays, we currently organise free Spay and Neuter events in different villages as much as we can however we are very limited with our funds and rely solely on donations from the public.

Because of the pandemic, we attempt to regularly feed stray and malnourished Dogs where we can, however this is simply not enough for the size of El Nido and the amount of dogs that need help.
