I am setting up this GoFundMe for an immigrant friend, Ange (not his real name), that I have been working with. Here is his heartbreaking story. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. -John

My name is Ange. I am writing to you to report the dangerous situation in which my wife and my child are currently living in my country of origin. In fact, I myself was a victim of several family and religious conflicts that forced me to leave my country in order to come here to the United States to work and protect my family from the same threats.

My family severely beat me and broke my ankle; I was not able to receive medical treatment until I came to the US. They were going to kill me, I had to flee, and I am trying to protect my family from the same fate. I know that they will do the same, or worse, to my wife and child.

Unfortunately, up until today, I have not yet received a work permit to be able to look for a job; I have not yet either protected my family from the threats. Actually, the lives of my wife and child are in imminent danger due to familial and religious threats. There are warrants from the police to forcibly arrest, detain, and put my wife and child into a religious cult. If my wife and child do not comply, they will be killed.

Right now, they are in hiding, but the police and my family are looking for them. There are threats against their lives and wellbeing. For this reason, I would like to humbly, in my pain, ask for your help in financial assistance of $5,000: $3,500 of which would permit my wife and child to move from the south of my country to the north, finally putting them in safety and $1,500 would go to my rent for the next three months. They could find a safe place to live, provide for their basic needs, and my son could return to school.

If I had my work permit, then I would send them all the money I could, but unfortunately due to immigration restrictions, I can't do that at this point. All this is counting on your support and indulgence. I ask you to receive the expression of my greatest gratitude. Thank you.
