Hi,
My sweet and beautiful and strong step mom Amanda is in critical condition right now. Me and my dad and everyone that loves her are very scared. Last night her body went into sepsis due to a huge infection in her abdomen. We still don’t know exactly what caused it, but it was bad enough to almost kill her. They had to operate with a life saving surgery that now has her fully sedated in the ICU with an open incision. They want to make sure her infection is gone before closing her back up with a follow up surgery.
All I know is that we can’t lose her. Amanda needs help. My dad needs help. The hospital is already demanding payment. They are threatening to transfer her to a state hospital which would greatly impact her care. And at her current state, she needs to stay where her life is being saved. We can’t risk anything. My dad is the strongest guy I know and this is breaking him.

URGENT MEDICAL EXPENSES
- $24,000 Immediate down payment on her medical bills so she can stay at the hospital she’s currently at and continue receiving the level of care that has been saving her life. A transfer to a state hospital would greatly impact her recovery. Right now she is in the ICU with an open incision, waiting for a follow-up surgery. Avoiding a transfer is critical. $10,000 is being billed for the emergency surgery last night and $14,000 dollars is required to be held in an account for continuing treatments.
URGENT HOUSING
- Immediate housing for my Dad while he navigates this crisis, and for Amanda when she’s able to leave the hospital. He is currently in a hotel only through April 1st, and we need to secure something close to the hospital so he can be there for her. Securing a safe, nearby place is extremely important so she has somewhere clean and stable to start her recovery after everything her body has been through.
TRANSPORTATION
- My dad has been without a car for the past 9 months and is relying on constant uber rides to-and-from the hospital. These trips every few hours add up quickly, but being there for her right now means everything.

About Amanda and the Farm
For the past 12 years, Amanda has been a core part of taking care of VerdEnergia, a regenerative project in Lanas, Costa Rica that has transformed barren pig farms to thriving rainforest. Together with the help of thousands of volunteers and community members, she has helped managed the reforestation of over 150,000 trees spanning more than 300 acres.
The farm has changed and saved countless lives by showing people the roots of climate destruction, and how the power of permaculture, trees, and animals can create a life force that brings radical change to the ecological, political, and cultural landscape of the world.
Amanda has been a vital leader in this work. She takes on deep emotional and physical labour to make people from all walks of life feel at home on the farm. She mediates deep discussions, educates, and provides profound care and support. She is like a’ farm mom’ to many and I think we can speak for everyone that has stepped foot at Verde that we are all extremely grateful and impacted by her presence.
Josh and Amanda need our support as quickly as possible to give Amanda the best chance of a full recovery to her kind, strong, and loving self.
