Save Alphonse (A Very Sick Puppy)
Our Story
A while back, my three roomates and I were lucky enough to find the best puppy ever at the Boulder Humane Society. His name is Alphonse, and he's quickly become everybody's favorite member of the family. He's lovable, charismatic, cuddly, and very sweet, and he's super calm and collected for a 22 month old! If you've met him, you know he's got a huge heart and loves everybody. We can't imagine the house without him.
Alfie's Health
On April 27th, Alphonse stopped eating. He's normally a very enthusiastic eater, so this really alarmed us. We didn't waste any time and got him to the vet straight away. At first it seemed like he might have just eaten something he shouldn't have, but things started getting worse quickly. It wasn't long before his lack of appetite turned into vomitting, diarrhea, lethargy, and even an inability to drink water. After literally dozens of visits, even our amazing vet wasn't able to figure out what was wrong with him. Internal medicine specialists in Boulder haven't had much luck either. All of his tests look great, but his symptoms just keep getting more and more severe.
As of this morning, Alfie's condition has declined to the point where we've had to hospitalize him, because he's having trouble even absorbing subcutaneous (under the skin) fluids, and his health is still declining. Even though he's such a young dog, he needs all the medical support he can get right now, and no matter what, we're going to make that happen. Everybody is remaining hopeful & dilligent. We want him to come home and lay down on his favorite couch with his family, and internal medicine specialists are hard at work taking care of him so he can.
How You Can Help
All of us were prepared for some amount of medical expense when we got Alfie, but none of us could have predicted this amount of treatment. Now, with Alphonse requiring 24/7 hospital care, the cost is becoming hard to bear, even with all 4 of us contributing everything we have.
We've already sunk about $3000 into Alphonse's treatment over the past two weeks, but what we're most concerned about is the cost of 24/7 care until he's well enough to come home. We don't want to bring him home earlier than we have to, because it's much safer for him to stay at the hospital right now. The initial 24 hours of intensive care, coupled with the treatment and diagnostics is already more than $1800, and it's likely going to be several days more before he turns a corner dramatically and is able to finish his recovery at the house with us.
Even with all of us to split the costs, this treatment will be a huge financial burden for us. We want Alfie to have the best possible care, and we would love your help making that happen. Any contribution is greatly appreciated, even if it's just a share of this campaign, or some words of encouragement.
Thank you so much for your love and support. Let's save this amazing puppy and bring him home to his loving family!
