My name is Kerry,
I want to introduce you to this little dog Albie. Martin and I discovered him 5 days ago on our travels in Italy, he had been abandoned, starving and left with an untreated broken leg . I say we found him, but really he found us. As soon as we parked the van, he ran up to us on his 3 legs frantic with his poor broken leg flapping about, he lay down desperate to be stroked and shown some love. We couldn't believe it when we noticed he has the same broken leg as Lowrie, heart breaking he must have been hit by a car and then just been abandoned. He is a gentle, affectionate, good natured dog who gets on with other dogs and loves people.
We took him with us in the van and spoke to a lovely lady Chiara from Furry rescue Italy to try and get help for him. Chiara got him a space in a shelter in Calabria and he is now awaiting an operation on his leg.
The reason we are fundraising is there is no money to pay for any of treatment xrays, vaccinations, surgery, neutering as resources are almost non exsistent. Life is very difficult for dogs in Italy, as they are often abandoned by there owners particular if they get injured as people can't afford to pay the vet bills or just refuse to. Also, culturally, many believe neutering is cruel ironically, and so many dogs end up having many puppies, who then just end up living on the streets - it is horrific!
It is a real crisis!
We are reaching out to dog lovers hoping for a small donation any thing to help get this money so Albie can get dog the treatment he deserves. Martin and I have covered the cost of Albies board in the Kennels for 1 month, gave food and two other travel friends Julliette and Uaine who also care about Albie have also paid toward his care. Together we are putting in as much as we can afford towards his treatment but we just cannot cover this full amount.
We wanted to take Albie with us but we just couldn't have two dogs recovering from a broken leg in our van, it would be a disaster with the care they both need. We are confident Albie will get adopted.
The total cost of treatment comes to £1,600 which will go to furry rescue Italy directly to pay for Albies treatment.
