Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
My name is Elana, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my family of four. We are a hardworking, loving household doing everything we can to stay afloat, but we’re facing a crisis that has pushed us beyond our limits.
My partner Travis recently started working at USPS, and I’ve been homeschooling our two children full-time. Despite all of our efforts, we’ve fallen severely behind on rent and essential bills due to a series of financial hardships, including vehicle repairs, housing costs, and institutional failures that have put us under unbearable stress.
This week, my mom passed away. I’ve been helping my dad handle the arrangements and paperwork while grieving myself, and Travis has had to miss work to take care of the kids so I could be with her in her final days. On top of everything else, this loss has brought even more emotional and financial strain to our family.
We’re doing everything we can to recover, but right now, we need a village. We need stability, not just for us—but for our children. Here is what we’re behind on:
• Rent: $6,360 (September and October)
• Car Loan: $1,500 (3 months behind and facing repossession)
• Cremation and Funeral Services $1000
• Urn and certificates $175
•PG&E: $600 ✅ PAID, thank you!
• Water (EBMUD): $300 50% PAID, thank you!
• Trash Service: $1,000
• Phone: $350
• Internet: $120
• Auto Insurance: $200
• Registration: $500 (car is unregistered)
That brings us to a total of over $12,000, just to get back to zero and keep our home, our car, and our basic utilities. We’re setting tiered goals so people can see how far their help goes:
• Tier 1 ($4,500): Covers one month of rent, car loan, PG&E, water, phone, and internet
• Tier 2 ($6,360): Adds second month of rent to keep our home secure
• Tier 3 ($8,605): Adds insurance, registration, and trash
• Tier 4 ($12,000+): Helps us fully reset and catch up on collections and debt
We’re also dealing with the emotional and financial fallout of being mistreated by the school system, which made false reports and traumatized our daughter. We’ve withdrawn both children and are now homeschooling full-time while trying to rebuild our stability. That situation added immense emotional and financial pressure at a time when we were already struggling.
Now, with the sudden loss of my mom, it feels like the ground has fallen out from under us. Any help we receive goes directly toward keeping our kids safe and stable during this heartbreaking time.
