Help us save this beautiful 2 day old Colt's life. A horrible human whom calls himself a "trainer/Breeder" (with no money to do so with) abandoned this mare and colt for dead at the first sight of trouble once he learned that the colt couldn't stand due to shorten tendons upon birth. The little guy could neither stand on his front hoofs nor suckle at his mama. Dehydrated, malnourished and suffering from heatstroke in 100 degree heat without coverage this hours-old baby was left for dead while this beautiful mare pawed and nuzzled at her unresponsive and nearly lifeless baby laying in a bed of dust, covered in flies, helplessly watching him die. A neighbor informed us of what they saw with mare and colt and we came to their rescue immediately. At first glance we knew the little guy was at death's door. Our neighbor gave us their vets number. In short order the A-team was on it. He was immediately transferred to the area's (and one of the country's) most renown equine clinics. He and mama were delivered in 15 min to the Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center (https://www.alamopintado.com).
The situation was dire and we were told he was 2 to 3 hours from death. Rushed into the ICU he was in the hands of the best and brightest in the business. A magnificent facility and one we are honored to have had access to. Being the best comes at a price, and boy is this level of treatment pricey. We will stop at nothing to save a suffering animal. Sugar Ray (Survivor) and Kai (Mama Mare) are two days into the recovery and treatment. Sugar Ray pulled through the first night by a hair. He is improving but slowly. He may have internal damage as his organs were beginning to shut down. We do not know at this moment how long he will need to receive care at this amazing place, but he will be there as long as is needed. And we intend to give mom and baby a loving and beautiful life.
We need your help at the beginning stages where the medical support is so costly. We saw fire in Kai's eyes as she stood strong over her colt. She knew that Sugar Ray was being well cared for and we felt a calm trust as she watched the staff of strangers care for her little one. She knows she is now surrounded by love. Every bit will help. We are two days in and the bill is well past $4,000.00. At $1,000.00 per day for this level of care, you can see we need help.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
