My workshop has been my dream for years. It was fulfilled 23 years ago when we moved to a home that would accommodate the building. It was a hobby in the beginning that became part of my business. I evolved into a wood artist over the past 12 years. Something that I love tremendously. Something that has become therapy for me in my difficult life as a care giver to my handicapped wife. My insurance company has denied coverage of the building, and I am reaching out in an attempt to save my dream and my sanity.
It was the morning of Wednesday July 2nd 2025. It was raining. I looked out my patio door into the back yard and noticed steam coming off the roof of my workshop. I knew immediately there was a problem. Rushed to get my shoes on, run out there, opened the door to a smoked filled space and intense heat. Flipped the light switch on, no electricity. Made a quick inspection and discovered the source was my table saw. Called 911 and requested the fire department. They arrived and immediately started checking temperatures as they were rolling out their fire hose. Confirming what I knew it was the table saw, they hosed the inside of the saw. It seems a wire got severed fell done in a pile of sawdust and started a hot embers fire. Very little actual flames, just intense smoke and water damage to everything.
Heartbreakingly, due to a misunderstanding and technicality with my policy, my insurance isn't going to cover the loss. As a result, I am left to shoulder the full financial burden of rebuilding — while also facing the immediate reality of being unable to create new work. With my inventory extremely limited, my livelihood is on pause until I can recover.
Funds raised will go toward repairing the workshop, replacing essential equipment, and allowing me to resume doing what I love — creating art and supporting myself through my craftsmanship.
