Clay Tanner is an active duty soldier in the United States Army. He and his wife, Lindsey, got married in December of 2017 and are stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Clay is an EOD Officer and is currently deployed to Iraq.
Shortly after Clay's deployment, Lindsey had the home heating unit serviced. During the service, it was discovered that the chimney, which serves as ventilation for the home heating unit, wood stove and fireplace, was damaged beyond repair. This was allowing deadly carbon monoxide fumes to build up inside the home. Upon further investigation, Lindsey discovered that this damage existed when Clay purchased the home in the spring of 2017. However, the inspection disclosing this damage was never presented to Clay, and a fraudulent inspection was included in the closing documents. With winter closing in and Clay overseas, Lindsey had to find an emergency solution so that she could have heat through the winter in Alaska. The short term fix cost nearly $8,000.
Completely and correctly repairing the chimney and the additional damage that occurred due to the issue not being disclosed will cost over $25,000. Clay and Lindsey pursued legal action but found it very difficult in a very closed community.
Not only is the financial burden extremely large for a newlywed couple, but time is also of the essence. When Clay returns in spring of 2019, they will need to repair and sell the house swiftly, as he will have to relocate to his new duty station in summer of 2019.
Your immediate attention would be very appreciated, as our goal is to be able to fund this repair before Clay returns from Iraq. Additionally, we would appreciate you sharing this via email or personal contact with as many people as you think will help.
