Save A Monarch

Hi , I'm Chris Bellis founder of the Save a Monarch Association. In the past 50 years the monarch population has declined at a very rapid pace due to things like pesticides, mowing and of course all their natural predators. But not all is lost. Foster parents of the monarch butterflies, such as myself have hand raised these beauties and increased the survival rate of the egg to the butterfly from 3% to almost 100% survival. The summer of 2022 I plan to spend the months of June, July and August conserving and protecting milkweed as well as gathering and raising hundreds to thousands of monarchs. Most of which will be rescued promptly before the first mow of the season. In this time we also will flag large areas of milkweed in the hopes the highway department will mow around them. The areas flagged will be frequently monitored and then allowed to flower.

So what will I do with all of these monarch butterflies and where will they be released? Great question, most of the butterflies will be released at our monarch sanctuary in Aniwa, Wisconsin. The others I would like to use to brighten peoples lives, such as releasing them in the hands of nursing home patients, foster kids or children's hospitals. +
