That adorable smiling face in all the photos is Nala, my fur baby, my baby girl, my love bug.. she truly is my heart. And this morning we found out that my baby girl has something called Pyometra - an infection of her uterus that can only be cured though immediate surgery to remove the infected and inflamed uterus. Otherwise, she will develop sepsis and ultimately die.

This little furry ball of love was a rescue that came into my life five and a half years ago when she was only 3 months old and could fit with her head laying in my palm and her back legs wouldn’t even reach my elbow. In truth she rescued me as much as we rescued her.

She is the very definition of pure unadulterated zero judgmental love. Her incredibly mild temperament has time and again reminded me to slow down, calm down, and be patient.

The veterinarian told us this morning that with the surgery she has a very good chance of fully recovering.

She also made clear that without the surgery there is only one outcome.

I cannot accept that outcome - she does not deserve to suffer and end her life this way.

Her story is not done being written. This dog has barked in anger maybe six times in her almost six years of life. She does not know the meaning of hatred or anger or mean spirited anything. She is the very definition of a pure soul that just wants to be loved and wants to love anyone and everyone she encounters…

I don’t even know how to ask for help regarding this surgery that she needs but, if anyone has an animal they know that love and that bond is indescribable.

It’s as palpable and powerful for them as it is with a parent and their children .
