Hi everyone!
The undergrad Philosophy Forum is trying to host philosopher / philanthropist Peter Singer for a (remote) guest lecture. Instead of charging a speaking fee, Singer asks for a $2000 donation to an effective charity of his choosing.
Singer founded The Life We Can Save, an organization which researches and recommends charities working to alleviate global poverty. The money would likely go to their Maximize Your Impact Fund, which is their "recommendation for donors who want to support evidence-driven charities working on key characteristics of extreme poverty, including education, health, living standards, and barriers to women and girls’ well-being."
If you're feeling charitable, there's really no better place to put your money - the donation goes straight towards the most effective known ways to improve people's lives (with money), AND the Phil Forum runs a lecture and Q&A with Peter Singer. If you like him, you get to hear him speak; if you don't, you get to ask him pointed questions; either way, the money does something we can all agree is valuable. It's the best of all worlds!
