A young pregnant wife sits by her husband’s hospital bed, her heart heavy with fear for his life and their children’s uncertain future. Ruhul Amin, only 35 years old. For a long time, he has been suffering from Myasthenia Gravis, a rare and complex disease that weakens the muscles, makes breathing difficult, and causes problems with swallowing. একজন তরুণ গর্ভবতী স্ত্রী হাসপাতালের বিছানার পাশে বসে আছেন, চোখে অশ্রু আর বুকভরা দুশ্চিন্তা। স্বামীর জীবন বাঁচবে কি না, সন্তানের ভবিষ্যৎ কোথায় যাবে, এ প্রশ্নে দিন কাটছে তাঁর।

রুহুল আমিন, বয়স মাত্র ৩৫, অনেকদিন ধরে মায়াস্থেনিয়া গ্রাভিস নামক এক জটিল রোগে ভুগছেন। এই রোগে আক্রান্ত হলে গলা ও শরীরের পেশীগুলো অসার হয়ে যায় যার ফলে শ্বাস নিতে কষ্ট হয়, খাবার খেতে সমস্যা হয়, আর শরীর ভীষণ দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ে। এই শারীরিক দুর্বলতা সত্ত্বেও তিনি শিশুদের আরবি ও কোরআন শিক্ষা দিতেন, সামান্য আয়ে সংসার চালাতেন। কিন্তু দীর্ঘদিন ওষুধ কিনতে না পারায় রোগ জটিল আকার ধারণ করে।

এমতাবস্থায়, শারিরীক অবস্থা অবনতি ঘটায়, রুহুল আমীনকে অনতিবিলম্বে হাসপাতালের শরণাপন্ন হতে হয়৷ সম্প্রতি তিনি পাঁচ দফা ব্যয়বহুল ও বেদনাদায়ক প্লাজমাফেরোসিস চিকিৎসা নিয়েছেন। কিন্তু তাতেও অবস্থার উন্নতি হয়নি। এখন ডাক্তাররা জরুরি অস্ত্রোপচারের পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন, যা সম্ভবত ভারতে করাতে হতে পারে। এদিকে আগের চিকিৎসার বিলও বকেয়া, আর সামনে দরকার অনেক টাকা। ডাক্তারদের মতে, এখন পর্যন্ত প্রায় ১০ লাখ টাকার প্রয়োজন, যা অস্ত্রোপচারের সাফল্যের উপর নির্ভর করে ভবিষ্যতে আরও বাড়তে পারে। এই অবস্থায় উপায়হীন হয়ে, অসহায় স্ত্রী আর ছোট সন্তানদের চোখে এখন কেবল আতঙ্ক আর অনিশ্চিয়তা।
