Ich brauche dringend eure Hilfe, um das Leben eines Mitstreiters zu retten!

Bitte lest diese Informationen vollständig, um zu verstehen, was in Uganda passiert und warum wir in den nächsten Tagen unbedingt weitere 3450 € sammeln müssen!

In zwei Droh-Nachrichten wird Faizo nach dem Leben getrachtet. Bitte helft mit ihn so schnell wie möglich in Sicherheit zu bringen!

Der Klimakollaps ist eine globale Bedrohung, und Menschen im Globalen Süden leiden schon jetzt massiv unter der Klimakrise. Daher bin ich als Klimaaktivistin mit anderen Aktivist*innen weltweit verbunden.

Vor ein paar Wochen hat sich die Gruppe Students for Climate Justice (SCJ) Uganda mit einem dringenden Hilferuf an mich gewandt: Einer ihrer Aktivisten wurde von maskierten Männern zusammengeschlagen. Seit SCJ gegen die neue Ostafrikanische Rohöl-Pipeline (EACOP) protestiert, die TotalEnergies mitten durch wunderschöne Naturschutzgebiete in Uganda und Tansania baut, haben die Repressionen gegen sie massiv zugenommen. Wir haben allen Grund zu vermuten, dass diese maskierten Männer von TotalEnergies geschickt wurden, um den jungen Aktivisten mundtot zu machen.

Dank eurer Spenden konnte die Operation, die 2400 € kostete, bezahlt und durchgeführt werden! Vielen Dank!

Doch nun haben sie ihn erneut bedroht. Die Nachrichten könnt ihr auf den Bildern sehen. Faizo und seine Freund*innen fürchten erneut um sein Leben und müssen ihn dringend außer Landes bringen!

Faizo (Name aus Sicherheitsgründen geändert) ist Klimaaktivist und hat sich vor einem Jahr der Bewegung angeschlossen, nachdem seine Eltern zu den vertriebenen Menschen in Bulisa gehörten. Seine Familie – wie viele andere auch – wurde ohne angemessene Entschädigung aus ihrem Zuhause gedrängt, um Platz für die EACOP-Pipeline zu machen. Seitdem kämpft seine Familie darum, ein neues Zuhause und finanzielle Stabilität zu finden. Sie konnten seine Studiengebühren an der Kyambogo-Universität nicht mehr bezahlen, weshalb Faizo sein Studium abbrechen musste.

Nach all diesen harten Lebensumständen hat Faizo begonnen, sich im Aktivismus direkt gegen EACOP zu engagieren.

Faizo hat an verschiedenen Kampagnen teilgenommen, Gemeinden über das Projekt aufgeklärt, andere Studierende mobilisiert, sich dem Aktivismus angeschlossen und friedlich gegen das EACOP-Projekt protestiert. Nach einem Aktivist*innentraining an der Metropolitan University wurde Faizo von Unbekannten brutal zusammengeschlagen und am Straßenrand liegen gelassen. Dank Spenden von Unterstützer*innen und Freund*innen konnte er damals eine Knieoperation erhalten.

Nach seiner letzten Operation sagte Faizo:

„Kein*e Aktivist*in in Uganda ist sicher, und nur weil wir unsere Stimme gegen die Ungerechtigkeiten erheben, werden wir wie Kriminelle behandelt. Aber wir können und werden nicht aufhören, trotz Einschüchterungen und Schlägen von Menschen, die wir nicht kennen! Momentan halte ich mich versteckt, weil ich vermute, dass diese Leute mich erneut angreifen werden. Trotzdem bereue ich es nicht, mich dem Aktivismus angeschlossen zu haben. Das gibt mir noch mehr Mut, weiter und weiter zu kämpfen.“

Faizo möchte den Kampf für unsere Zukunft aus Tansania fortsetzen, wo er sicherer wäre und die Gruppe in Ruhe ihre nächsten Schritte planen könnte. Damit er Uganda verlassen und in Sicherheit gebracht werden kann, müssen wir weitere 3450 € sammeln – für Reisepässe, nationale ID-Karten, Visa und einen Impfausweis mit den erforderlichen Impfungen. Hinzu kommen die Reisekosten für die Fahrt und eine kleine Starthilfe in Tansania. Eine Freundin wird ihn begleiten, da Faizo noch nicht stark genug ist, um alleine zu reisen und alles zu regeln.

Als Menschen im Globalen Norden, die von der Zerstörung der Häuser von Faizos Familie und vielen anderen profitieren, liegt es in unserer Verantwortung, in Solidarität zu handeln und diese mutigen jungen Menschen an der Front im Kampf um unser aller Leben auf jede mögliche Weise zu unterstützen!

Climate activist has been threatened again! Help get him out of Uganda to a safer place to avoid further injury and death!

Hi. My name is Mirjam and I'm a climate activist from Germany.

I urgently need your help to save the life of a fellow climate activist!

Please read this information fully to understand whats going on in Uganda and why we desperately need to collect another 3450€ within the next days!

Climate collapse is a global threat and people in the global south are suffering from the climate crisis already, therefore as a climate activist I am connected with other activists around the world.

A couple weeks ago the group Students for Climate Justice (SCJ) Uganda reached out to me with an urgent call for support: one of their activists had been beaten up by masked agents. Since SCJ campaigns against the new East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) that total energies is building right through beautiful nature reserves in Uganda and Tanzania, repression against them has intensified. We have good reason to suspect the masked agents to be sent by total energies to shut the young activist up.

Now they have threatened him again. You can see the messages in the pictures. Faizo and his friends fear for his life once more and desperately need to get him out of the country!

Faizo (name changed for safety reasons) is a climate activist who joined activism a year ago after his parents were part of the displaced people in Bulisa, where his family amongst many others was pushed from their home without reasonable compensation to make way for the EACOP pipeline. Faizos family was left struggling to find a new home and financial stability. They were unable to pay for his studies at Kyambogo University, which Faizo could not continue because of this.

With all these life struggles Faizo has faced, he joined activism directly opposing EACOP.

Faizo has been active in different campaigns, sensitizing communities about the project, mobilizing fellow students to join activism, and peacefully protesting against the EACOP project.

After their last activists training at Metropolitan University, Faizo was attacked by anonymous people who brutally beat him up and threw him at the road side. Faizo received a knee surgery with the help of raising funds from kind supporters and friends.

After Faizo had received his last surgery, he said: “ Every activist in Uganda is not safe and just because we raise our voices against the injustices, we are taken to be criminals. But we can’t and we won’t stop amidst the intimidations and beatings from people we don’t know! Currently I am in hide out, because I suspect these people to attack me once more. Still I do not regret joining activism. This gives me more courage to fight more and more.“

Faizo wants to continue fighting for our future from Tansania, where he will be safer and the group will plan what their next steps can be. To be able to leave Uganda and get Faizo to safety we need to raise another 3450€ for passports, national ID cards, visas, and a vaccination certificate with the required vaccinations. This also includes the travel expenses for the journey and some money for getting started in Tansania. A friend will accompany him, because Faizo is not yet strong enough to travel by himself and take care of everything.
