Buba Sanyang was born in February of 2010 and is now age 17. He is an orphan since he was 12. Buba became an orphan on the same day his youngest brother, "Papa," was born, an orphaned newborn. This incident occurred 2 years ago, so baby boy Papa is now a toddler. ☆
He lives today in The Gambia in West Africa with his grandmother and 4 younger sibling. They are in KOMBO CENTRAL area, near Manduar. While Buba himself is a teenage boy, his younger brother, "Lamin Jr.," is only 8. His younger little brother, "Balang," is only 6. Then, the only sister in the family was born; her name is, "Fatou," and she is 4 years old. The baby of Buba's family is named "Papa," and he is a 2 year old boy. The family is a total size of 6 people. ☆
His grandmother is named, "Binta." She was born in 1945 so her 82nd birthday is coming soon! Buba tell me often of how much he loves his Grandma Binta because she always used to give the children and Buba special clothing from her heart, but now she is too sick. Grandma Binta really loves animals, and she especially loves black cats most of all. Buba's family cannot afford to treat nor cure Grandma Binta. She has been suffering from the pain of her diabetes for years now. This is because Buba's father and mother once paid for the diabetes-related healthcare with the money from working their jobs, but they are in heaven now and after nearly 3 years, their savings have completely dried up. ☆
Buba's father, age 50, was Lamin Sanyang: (1974-2024). Buba's mother, age 38, was Madina Sanyang: (1986-2024). Medina and Lamin are both named after real locations in The Gambia. In 2022, Medina Sanyang and her husband Lamin were driving to work one morning when they were in a car accident. Medina was pregnant at the time with baby boy, "Papa," who is now age 2. Buba's mom and dad both died that day in the hospital, but baby boy Papa survived... except now, Grandma Binta Sanyang may be joining their parents in heaven soon without medical help due to her untreated diabetes. Did you know that $1 can buy about 1 LB of rice in The Gambia? Today's exchange rate is about 1 USD to 73 Gambian Dalasi (1/31/2026.) ☆
Like most kids in The Gambia, life for Buba consists a lot of foraging, searching, collecting, gathering, chopping, processing, and then selling firewood; it is the same for Buba and the rest of his family. The water from the rural community well is their own access to drinking water, but the water has a terrible taste and often makes people very ill, leading to death. Because his mother and his father had jobs before their death, they once had some savings. Now, almost 3 years after their deaths, Buba's family is at the end of the road, financially speaking. As of Dec 31st, 2025, Buba the teenager, his Grandma Binta, and the 4 little children they care for have been formally evicted from their home. The photos where the family is inside a home with blue walls is from the home they were evicted from. Now, they are completely homeless. The family has no means to afford to purchase any food and the children, they cry to Buba and Binta everyday, saying, "we are hungry, it hurts." Buba and Binta, age 81 and 16 are also hungry, but put on a brave face to care for these small children, ages 2, 4, 6, and 8 who are also orphans too.☆
If you donate $5, Buba can pickup your donation funds from his local bank within less than 24 hours. My name is Abigail, and I am 30 years old from Portland, Oregon area. I will be paying the extra fees myself to ensure the full integrity of your donation as it reaches the other side of the world with speed. I am available anytime for phone calls or texting or however you would like to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. If you donate $5, it means this family of 6 can be eating a meal in less than a day, and if you ask, we will send you photos and videos of it as it happens. Our hope is that this GoFundMe will allow the family to pay rent and not be homeless anymore, God willing.
