Save 1.8 acres of Wisconsin for outdoor school

Donation protected
We work toward sustainability, through our local group, ECO-Tours of Wisconsin Inc. In our twenty-odd years of existence, we have planted tens of thousands of     trees and transformed many dozens of acres.  Our goal has been to provide fun events, tours, and programs with purpose. We restore impacted areas with native vegetation, wild food and medicinal plants, this, in turn, protects water quality, saves resources and rehabilitates abused land. We teach people how  to sequester    carbon, and provide classes in making and use of biochar, native tree plant-ins and insights from our study of permaculture and  restoration biology. Because of covid-19, we have been unable to secure traditional funding, so we are reaching out to people who want to protect wild areas, create and restore sustainable communities and to get back to nature in ways that protect and defend their own health and wilderness from the abuses of development and exploitation.
The programs we offer help build skills for sustainability and independence; learning by doing.  The atmosphere is like adult  summer camp, with lots of options for  learning and being creative, with time for respite and/or reflection, immersed in nature. We all benefit from intact wild land and this rare, 1.8-acre parcel, is surrounded by the city of Algoma  and yet is just a half dozen miles from several great  campgrounds and beautiful Lake Michigan. Guests wanting to fly in, can be picked up at the local airport. This great location will put us within a reasonable day-trip, bike ride from over a million potential clients
Funds will help purchase this land, protecting it from development. It will also serve as home base for ECO-Tours.
Our fundraising is beginning in earnest this Fall/Winter 2020, but will continue  until our goal is met. Your support means so much more to us than a bank loan because we know it comes from an individual who works hard for their money, like we do. By taking time to understand our goals and efforts, we know you honor and respect our work. Part of what we teach through all of our tours is focused on the art of the give back, or give away. This ancient cultural practice is  often forgotten and the re-birth of this powerful change agent in our lives is essential to taking our next steps toward peace, justice and ecological sanity.  This fundraiser will benefit hundreds of guests each year, whether they come for a day to learn how to make soap, or maple syrup, a week-long writer's workshop or sign on for a month-long wild rice harvest at our remote ricing encampment.  It will benefit many more people than the current vacant status and it will benefit downstream residents by protecting the water that flows across the land. The sooner you can help, the sooner we can purchase the land and begin implementing permacultural practices there. Be aware, there are generous rewards  for people who want to come see all that we offer.
