Savary remembering Darren & Neil, supporting Hazel & Gloria

On April 6th, our small Savary Island community was devastated by the passing of two deeply loved men—Darren Claydon and Neil McLean. Darren and Hazel, and Neil and Gloria: two couples, this once tied together family is now down to two.

So now we ask this small community of wonderful people to come together: this fundraiser has been set up by friends and neighbours who care, to support Hazel and Gloria as they face not only overwhelming grief, but the sudden financial challenges that come with it.

 

Adaptations need to be made to support Hazel as she navigates her future in the home that she and Darren built together here on Savary Island.

And Gloria and Neil retired to their dream home here on Savary Island recently, but the home is no longer safe to live in, so Gloria is now facing decisions about where and how to live.

On top of all this, Hazel and Gloria are faced with the costs of burying and memorializing their spouses; they both need time and space to grieve; and they both need some very practical adaptations to their homes to continue living independently (and safely).

 

We’re hoping to raise $100,000.00 split equally between Hazel and Gloria, to help with:

• Memorial costs for Darren and Neil;

• Repairs for both homes;

• Living expenses, legal help, and healing time away from work and other obligations.

I'm Emer Dubois the organizer, I started this and send out the updates with the family's approval and photos. Because GoFundMe can only have one beneficiary where the funds go, Gloria McLean and Hazel Hollingdale appointed Anne Troyer to be that person. She then deposits the funds split equally directly to Gloria and Hazel's bank accounts.
