Hello! Welcome and THANK YOU for taking the time to click on the link. For those of you that do not know, this is for Savannah. Savannah is a very special, beautiful, and loved 15 year old who has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (also called osteogenic sarcoma – tumorous bone cancer). This cancer is so rare, there are only about 1000 cases diagnosed in the United States per year, half of which are children and teens. Savannah had been complaining about right knee pain so severe she could barely walk. After multiple trips to the doctor and overcoming, and initial diagnosis of growing pains, an MRI was ordered. She was diagnosed in November 2022, less than 30 days after her grandmother, Mimi, passed away. We all thought, “this cannot be happening.” Not strike 2. Fast forward to the results, which showed she had a tumor (she named it Jerri) on the backside of her knee. She was subsequently diagnosed with osteosarcoma metastatic in her lungs. Things from there happened very quickly. So far, Savannah has had 6 chemo treatments in hopes of stopping the spread of the cancer and reduce the size of the tumor. Chemo only shrunk Jerri by 40%, which is better than nothing, but in order to save her life we had to sacrifice her leg. She had her right leg amputated, just above the knee, in February. There was also some progress for the lesions on her lungs, which means the number of lesions that would need to be cut out was reduced. On Monday her doctors removed her right lung from her chest, cut out 9 lesions, and then replaced the lung. In 5 weeks, the same process will occur on her left lung. All the while continuing chemo treatments to remove/get rid of the remaining cancerous tumors in her body.
Savannah is a very strong teenager and has been homebound since the November/December time frame. She is trying to live life to the fullest as best she can. We (family and friends) are trying to give her as much support as we can. So every little bit you can donate will be GREATLY appreciated.
The proceeds will go to help with everyday living expenses, (food, travel, missed time from work, lost wages etc) The main thing is to help with the cost of a "new" leg. As the family understands it, insurance will only cover the cost of 1 prosthetic per person per lifetime. Because Savannah is only a CHILD, she is still growing and will require at least two more prosthetics in her lifetime. This is estimated to cost approximately $30,000 total. With that said, every dollar will help. Savannah has her parents by her side every single day. That means missed work and missed time from their youngest child Seth. The struggle truly is real, every day.
