Billie Sue and her husband, Lance, were in China finalizing the details of their move from Guangzhou back to Canada when Billie went into (very) preterm labor. Savannah Sophie Souter was born on 5/30, at just 26 weeks, weighing 1.85lbs. She is tiny but fierce (just like her mommy) and is now breathing on her own and getting stronger every day!
Billie had some complications, but is receiving the care she needs and they are hopeful she will be discharged from the hospital in the coming days. Savannah will likely spend the next several months in the NICU until she is strong enough to go home.
Savannah has a long road ahead of her with many unknowns and she is still at risk for serious complications. They are taking it one day at a time and thankful that she is mostly stable and improving a little bit each day. Lance is coordinating with insurance and doctors to see how soon they will be able to transport Savannah closer to home.
Even with the help of insurance, they will undoubtedly incur substantial bills for medical care, the transport, and other baby related expenses they will face in the coming months.
