Hi, I’m Savannah! At 20 years old, on October 13th, 2023, I suffered a stroke. This left me with paralysis on my dominant right side. I’ve since regained some strength with physical and occupational therapy, but I still have a long way to go. I now need a wheelchair for long distances, and a AFO (brace) that I have to wear anytime I’m walking. I have to sleep downstairs because I need my wheelchair to go to the bathroom at night and it won’t fit through my bedroom door upstairs. I can’t wear the brace at night because I need to wear shoes with it, and putting them on each time I have to get up isn’t realistic. With the funds raised with GoFundMe, I would be able to buy a Bioness L300 Go Lower Cuff unit, which will allow me to walk without my AFO. The Bioness unit provides electrical stimulation to my ankle and foot whenever I take a step, lifting my foot up and allowing me to walk. It will also help build neuroplasticity and with movement in my foot. Getting rid of the AFO will help me feel more normal again.
