Savannah's Neurological Fight
Donation protected
Savannah was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 1/2 years ago. Out of the blue, struck like lightening and progressed quickly. Prior to that, she was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD when she was 5. Little did we know the path of these three were closely related. As it turns out, the location where her brain is seizing, is the location in the frontal lobe that controls impulse and speech.
It's a medical trifecta of sorts. We have tried many types of seizure medications but she is still having breakthrough seizures.
We will need to do more tests to find her better treatment. We are currently on the wait list for an integrated epilepsy clinic, the Colorado Children's Hospital neuropsychological department, and will soon need more tests to figure out her temporary paralysis in her leg after some recent seizures. She will also need to continue with behavioral health treatments so we can help get her socialized with peers with similar interests and start to rebuild her self confidence.
Between the ER rides for seizures and their side effects, medication cocktail and tests and doctor visits at the Children's Hospital of Colorado, we are running through all our money in savings. We have tried to find the best insurance coverage but there are still tons of out of pocket expenses and loopholes not covered. So here we are, determined to keep fighting, determined not to give up but to seek help and answers and needing the support to help us continue on. All funds raised will be used to pay Savannah's doctors bills. If we make it to our goal, we would like to use the left over to start saving for a specially trained epilepsy dog which we would like to have for her in the next few years so she can gain some independence.
Savannah is such a creative, intelligent, and thoughtful young lady. She loves dragons, and animals, nature and going to the history and science museum. She loves beyond belief her younger brother and has an infectious laugh and genuine smile. She used to have such an advanced vocabulary, teachers were caught off guard. Now with the daily absence seizures, we can barely get her ready for school and through basic tasks. Her speed processing index has dropped over 40 points in 2 years and she's starting to loose that spark I know is somewhere still buried inside her. Please help with her fight, and thank you for reading and caring about our precious daughter.
