Savage Inequalities

Professor Valerie Jefferson and Professor Shamim Arastu from LoneStar College CyFair will accompany up to 10 students to Nicaragua for The Alternative Spring Break during March 11-19, 2016. Our project is entitled "Savage Inequalities: Understanding Poverty and Education in Central America". We are partnering with an NGO that focuses on community empowerment and providing quality education in one of the most economically distressed barrios outside the city of Granada. While there, we will engage in a service project, building a home in Nueva Esperanza, an impoverished barrio. In order to do this, we will need to raise $3,200 for materials to build this home.
Our hope is to help students’ expand their world view through comparing and contrasting the educational systems, the culture, the economy, and the inequalities in the daily life of Nicaraguan citizens. We would love to get some support from the community as we work to raise this money for this service project.
Help us raise this amount and make a difference in the global community.
Our goal deadline is March 1st, 2016!
