Saundra's wife, Pina's motorcycle accident copay
Hello - My name is Janet Wooldridge and I am raising money for my dear, dear friend, Pina Sicari, who was in a motorcycle accident near Davenport, CA on Sunday, June 27th, in the afternoon. A car darted out and didn't see her and down she went. The car kept going! She was airlifted to Valley Med Hospital a block over from my house and has been there in a drug-induced coma ever since. She has a broken pelvis, many facial fractures, many brain bleeds that caused incredible swelling and is breathing with assistance because she got pneumonia as many comatose patients get. She's on a pain drip, feeding tube, and all kinds of things! She is fairly stable and soon they will attempt to remove the ventilator tube. She had a full helmet on, thick jeans and jean jacket, thick leather gloves and a leather vest. Her external injuries are minor compared to her brain and bone injuries. Traumatic brain injuries take a long time to heal because the brain stopped suddenly after being at full speed...the thing that killed many car racers. I'm raising funds for them to be able to pay their out of pocket co-pay and future copays for all of the rehabilitation Pina will need as a result of this accident. I work with her on a daily basis at the hospital to stimulate her brain as she attempts to open her eyes and regain consciousness. She and her wife brought her her iPod (which wasn't even hurt in the accident) and she is listening to it on a portable speaker. Next, we'll be putting up photos of her, her wife, their two dogs and friends to help her memory. I feel grateful that she is still with us and that I live next door to the hospital and have a flexible schedule so I can go there often and spend quality time while trying to get purposeful movements from her. She is on her way, but it's a long process. Any amount you can spare will help my dear friends through this difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all.
