On August 13, I was pulling a pallet at work. It was broken, but it didn't look heavy. The pallet jack I was using (come to find out) was bad as well. I pulled on the pallet to move it out, and I felt a "POP" in my back. I immediately knew something wasn't right but thought I pulled a muscle, so I continued moving the pallet to its new location not far from where it was to scan bins. I had literally just started back to work about 10 days prior. Once I got my pallet to the other side, I realized I was in pain when I moved at all. I reported the injury. I was terribly embarrassed, of course. They sent me to urgent care and did X-rays and said they see nothing. Treated for back strain, told to come back in a week. I go back and tell him I still can't move without pain. He does another X-ray and can't see anything. He sends me to Ortho, and Ortho does an X-ray... I have 2 fractures in my T5 and T6. I'm waiting for an MRI, which is scheduled for October 30. At that doc visit, my doc put me out of work completely until after the MRI results. My rent is late, and the landlord is pressuring me about it. I will get workers' comp pay, but my first check won't be until the 30th of Oct and only 60%, with the first 3 days being non-pay days. When the accident happened, work cut my hours tremendously because I was on light duty, so that's how I got so behind. That and the fact I just started back to work.
