Brief introduction
According to IUPUI latest report, IUPUI campus has over 420 English, undergraduate and graduate Saudi students. In addition, University of Indianapolis, Butler, Marion University, ELS and Internexus all have different numbers of Saudi students as well. This, bring the number of Saudi students to up to 700 Saudi citizens with average age between19-27.
Project Overview
The proposed clubhouse will dramatically impact the Saudi community in Indianapolis. Saudi Clubhouse is a project that aims to bring members of Saudi community in Indianapolis together during weekends and national holidays. It will help increase social activities and help foster an increased Saudi community spirit.
Why the club?
Attracted by good average cost of living, large number of educational opportunities and well known health facilities; many Saudis decided to make Indianapolis their first stop during their journey in the United States. As results, due lack of previous experience (among other reasons), many Saudis started to adopt wrong behavior which may jeopardize academic, health and security aspects of their lives (during my time as president of Saudi club, I have encountered 2 DUI cases, 3 Legal cases, 2 Health-related cases which all related to Saudi community members in Indianapolis).
The Clubhouse comes as a project that completes series of previous projects which all share the same vision of the current Saudi club “Educate while entertain”. During the current election year, Saudi Club have hosted Ramadan Iftar (for 30 days of Ramadan, average 45 meals per day), established Saudi Soccer League (6 teams and 60 players) and booked over 28 hours at IUPUI library for group study and tutoring purpose. As of today, our club has proudly hosted over 80 events since May 2016.
Goals and Values
The clubhouse serves multiple goals with main aim to improve Saudi community in Indianapolis through:
1. Providing a space where Saudi community can gather in healthy environment during weekend/vacations.
2. Adding an amenity that will increase the value of friendship between the Saudis.
3. Providing chance to meet and follow up on Saudi member condition and progress.
4. Providing opportunity to transfer helpful knowledge between Saudi community members.
5. Talents and abilities of Saudis are recognized and utilized within the Saudi Students Club.
6. Hosting meetings to participate in consensus-based decision making regarding all important matters relating to the running of the Saudi Students Club.
7. Lowering the cost of Saudi club by adding an event space to be used for a wider variety of events that will help foster a more social community environment.
