Saturn in Uppsala - a PR balloon
Donation protected
The Swedish Astronomical Society is the organizing body behind Sweden Solar System, the world's biggest scale model of the solar system. It includes around 25 installations across all of Sweden. By providing an unprecedented perception of the vast dimensions of our planetary neighborhood, Sweden Solar System is an inspiration for people of all ages, all over the world.
However, one glaring omission remains - Saturn. A model of the second biggest planet has still not been built.
What we're raising means for at this time:
To attract the attention of the general public, the media and decision makers, we want to inflate a custom-made balloon in the scale of Saturn in the SSS (6 m in diameter), in a public space in central Uppsala.
Why we think this is a good idea:
Because it will provide a better idea of the final construction than any video or animation could. A physical representation is also a powerful symbol that will echo well both in Uppsala and on social media.
What happens with the money?
If we reach the primary goal, we'll order the balloon with the funds.
If we surpass the primary goal, we'll order the balloon and keep the remaining funds to help finance the permanent installation.
Who receives the money?
The recipient is The Swedish Astronomical Society (Svenska Astronomiska Sällskapet), a non-profit organisation.
