Sarjo Baldeh and his family in the Gambia

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Nehemiah. Michael (my brother) and have been good friends with Sarjo and his family for a long time. Sarjo is 19, and living on the coast of Gambia, he is such a bright soul and has been caring for his family for many years. He is living with his mom, two young sisters and one brother who is currently disabled. Their father passed a few years ago so most of the hard work falls onto Sarjo.

Sarjo and his family are just like you and I, they are funny, talented, passionate, unique, and worth tons of love. It's easy to brush off the problems in the heart of our Gaia (Africa) because there is just so much suffering. It may seem like too big of a problem for one person to solve. But no one is asking for that. We don't need a select few acting perfectly, we need everyone acting imperfectly. Helping just one family like Sarjos goes such a long way in the unity of our brothers and sisters in Africa. These people need our help, we need to use our privilege for good. No one deserves to live a life of pure survival.

Sarjo is currently in a food and housing crisis. It's extremely hard to find jobs in the Gambia that aren't involved with crime. His landlord will be kicking him out tomorrow morning if they do not pay all their bills. Michael and I are sending him money for rent tonight, but we can't be the only ones helping him. We have a gofundme ourselves, we aren't in the position to continuously fund his family. If everyone pitches in 5$, we can change Sarjo's life.

1 USD equals 61 Gambian dalasis

. 1 bag of rice costs 2,000 GMD, which is around 30 USD. The price of food has gone up in the Gambia, especially since covid19, but 30$ a month is still very easily raisable if we all pitch in. Sarjo's family's rent is 5,000 GMD.

Sarjo is the only member of his family capable of working, the stress of keeping his family alive rests on his shoulders. Sarjo is incredibly smart and strong, but he is still only 19. He deserves what all children deserve, a feeling of safety. A space to grow, food to eat, energy to explore passions and live.

Sarjo and his family's childhoods have been taken away from them, but it's not too late. Michael and I have been brainstorming business ideas with Sarjo as well as a plan to get out of the ghetto. All they need is a headstart. A few months where they don't have to worry about food or the roof over their head being taken. Some time to build energy and a means to sustain themselves outside donations.

If we can give that time to Sarjo, he will amaze us. Please, share, please donate. Even if its 50 cents, you will make an impact.

We cannot ignore the crisis in Africa any longer, think globally, act locally. Helping one family at a time will surely heal our collective through and through.

I will link Sarjo's Instagram here, feel free to talk to him personally, He taught himself English. His monthly phone plan is 10GMD.
