Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of SarcoidosisUK and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
More information about SarcoidosisUK: We exist to help people in the UK deal with sarcoidois. We do this in three ways: Information, Support, and Researching a Cure.
Hello! My name is Caitlin, and I am raising funds for Sarcoidosis UK- a charity close to mine and my family's hearts. In 2018, my dad was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in his lungs- since resulting in the deterioration of vital lung function and the ability to breathe by himself.
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease in which the immune system overreacts, causing groups of cells to form clusters of inflamed tissue called "granulomas" in one or more organs of the body. It is a rare and often misunderstood disease- with specialists agreeing that around 1 in every 10,000 people in the UK develop sarcoidosis- and does not receive sufficient attention from pharmaceutical companies or medical researchers. Sarcoidosis UK is one of the worlds leading investors into sarcoidosis research- committed to finding a cure. I am committed to help support this charity, and fundraise as much as I can to support not only my dad, but every other individual living with this disease. As a twenty-something year old who has watched her dad deteriorate with his condition, I know it affects not only the patient, but the whole family.
In order to raise funds, I've started to train firstly for the Battersea 5K in February 2024- with plans to build up my training to participate in half marathons- and eventually, maybe, even a full marathon. I have chosen running as a way to fundraise in honour of my dads achievements as being an international youth representative of track and cross country running. All donations will go straight to Sarcoidosis UK- who have four goals: to provide accurate and detailed information to people with sarcoidosis, their carers and medical professionals; provide emotional support for people with sarcoidosis and their carers; investing in focused medical research working directly to find a cure; and to raise awareness for a rare and often misunderstood disease.
I thank you for your support, and look forward to raising money for a hugely personal and important cause.
UPDATE: Thank you to everybody who has supported me so far! I successfully participated in the Battersea 5k, achieving a new PB of 33 minutes- and raising £1,790! I've decided to continue my fundraising, now beginning training for a 10k. All support is hugely appreciated, and I look forward to updating you all with my progress. Thank you again! x
