Hi, my name is Sarah. I’m a senior in high school in Columbia, Missouri. I’m trying to raise the remaining amount of money that would allow me to attend the school of my dreams. I was accepted into a wonderful art school in NYC where I can pursue my goal of becoming an animator and game designer, but the tuition is very, very expensive. I'm trying to be realistic about my financial situation, without giving up hope of attending. I know that someone else might have decided it would not be possible even to try to attend this school, but I'm determined to keep finding a way to get to Pratt Art Institute by the fall of 2016. I have received grants and scholarships and work-study. I will take out loans, and my mother has worked hard to supply the rest, but I have not quite reached the full amount.
I have always loved creating art, but my life has not provided a straight path to the place I am today. I have struggled with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis for years. I think that some of my dedication to art may have been sparked by the need for an active internal world because I was not able to do many of the things my peers were able to do.
In 2013 my world pretty much fell apart when my 17-year old brother died suddenly and violently. I really didn’t know if I would be able to stay in school. Every day felt like torture to me. It was a lonely, painful experience. If I had not been able to turn to drawing, I really don’t think I could have survived it. I am grateful for the support and positive feedback I’ve gotten as I've struggled to get through this difficult time.
I’ve known for a long time that, if I could have a career that put my talents in the visual arts to work, I would be happy. I am dedicated to improving my abilities, and I know that I will soak up the education offered at art school. Any money that is donated through this site will be spent on tuition, room, and board.
It is difficult for me to put into words how grateful I am that you might be considering contributing. I can assure you that I will continue to forge ahead to meet my goals!
