Hey, ya'll. Well, I've always been a fan of aliens but this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

Turns out this large lump in my gut is a Complex Ovarian Cyst measuring a whopping 16.5 cm in diameter and ~1,000 ml in volume! That's bigger than a grapefruit and is painfully squishing all my other organs and nerves.

After ultrasounds, CT scans and a few doctor exams, it has been confirmed that surgery is needed to remove the mass (whose legal name is Francyst O. Varian).

The procedure, called a Unilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy (the removal of the entire ovary and tube), will be performed on June 17th by Dr. Vaagn Andikyan from the Cancer Institute at Tampa General Hospital.

The plan is to remove my entire left ovary and left fallopian tube. During the procedure, they will check for signs of cancer. If it's cancerous, then I will have my pelvic lymph nodes and omentum (layer of fatty tissue covering the intestines) removed. They'll also poke around my uterus to check for cancer too.

Because this is an open surgery and not laparoscopic, my recovery time will be longer unfortunately. The team at TGH encourages 6 weeks of rest but I anticipate I'll be back to work in 4.

This is my first major surgery so I'm not entirely sure what the full cost will be but I have reflected the GoFundMe goal as best as I can. It covers my out-of-pocket max with my insurance (which is $1,350) and a month's worth of my personal bills.
