Sarah’s rent

This is truly embarrassing for me to ask. I have scoured resources for rental assistance and I have not been accepted with my predicament. I’m usually know in Key West as Perky Sarah. I have not been so Perky as of late:. I was let go from my job of almost 7 years as a tour guide. It truly broke my heart. It wasn’t just a job for me. It was also part of my identity. Part of my Key West family. It was a truly difficult blow and I had to be hospitalized for Major Depression, General Anxiety Disorder, self harm and suicidal ideation. All I thought was I am turning 50 this summer and was not thinking of starting over completely again. I only needed that job to survive. Not only have I lost a job, I lost my health benefits. I had to leave the hospital on the last day of medical insurance. I couldn’t have all my meds filled for an entire month and had to stretch what medications I had to survive. I was doing my best to function, to eat, to survive. I have a wonderful landlord couple that have been so patient and helpful. Now I am almost two months behind. My savings is gone and more health complications. While taking care of my mental health, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my high blood pressure is not being controlled by one medication. I can’t afford the diabetic medication copay. I can’t afford rent or monthly bills. The good thing is, this was a wake up call. I have been eating better, exercising and have a job I start tomorrow. Mind you, I am not going to be making half of what I made before and have to also get a second job. But I am incredibly grateful. Folks I really need help and feel so embarrassed to ask with everyone also going through difficult times financially. I live with two

elderly cats and have such a great support group of people that have been doing what they can. There is no place cheaper here and I cannot afford to move either. Although, the future looks like Key West will not be my home permanently. Any contribution is a blessing. I am so very sorry to ask and am doing everything I can to get on my feet.
