Back Sarah's New Book: Man-buns to the Mediterranean
Donation protected
Beloved community!
Nearly 3 years after publishing & recording my first book, Homecoming, I'm thrilled to announce that my second book is officially in full swing! After many un-forseen plot twists last year, From Man-buns to the Mediterranean: The Yellow Brick Road to Love is fully under way. (working title)
Why am I asking for your support? Simply, I do not have a book advance (yet) and this book will change your life! Homecoming was my heart and soul, Man-buns is ready to go BIG. At its core, this is a book about Love in the modern age. It is a personal memoir, but it also speaks to many universal themes and experiences of today's culture that leave us all scratching our heads. If Homecoming was about returning to Self, then Man-buns is the heart-breaking and hilarious millennial journey of learning to love others-no matter what hair style is going on.
Story time:
When Homecoming was in the final phase of completion my grandfather passed away. With his passing he left me some money. In conjunction with a part-time job, I was able to stretch that money over the course of 6 months so I could fully focus on writing, while also covering all my publishing fees. This was a huge gift and privilege that literally made my dream come true.
Effectively, my grandfather had posthumously provided what some authors receive, which is called a book advance. A book advance (usually around the $20k mark) is money from a publisher provided to an author to write a book. The author gets to live off those funds while fully focusing on the task at hand. There's more involved in a book advance, but essentially, it's a paying contract that honors this core tenant: art matters and the artist making it deserves to be compensated, just like any other profession.
Agents & Angel Investors:
I do not have a major publisher-yet-but unlike Homecoming, I do plan on sending this manuscript to agents, in hopes of being picked up by a major publishing house. I have seen clearly that this book is also meant to be adapted into a screenplay (think Eat, Pray, Love or Under the Tuscan Sun) In order to write my little butt off this Summer (no matter what life plot twists I'm thrown) I'm seeking to raise a portion of my living expenses so I can truly focus on writing the best quality manuscript.
I'm not asking for $20k, although, if an angel investor out there is feeling generous then I openly RECEIVE. In lieu of said angel, I'm asking for $6k. These donations will mean more than you could possibly know.
To ask for something is...
It is a vulnerable thing to ask for what we need, especially as women.
To ask and receive re-writes every ancestral story of poverty I come from. How many times have you wanted (or even needed) something in life but money was the barrier to obtaining it? For me, too many times to count. Each time I ask to be supported I begin to break that barrier and break the inherited pattern that created it. Perhaps donating to me will empower you to do the same. I sure hope so. In turn, I hope this book serves you, and thousands of others, deeply.
With profound gratitude and Love,
Sarah Grady
