Hi, my name is Veronica. My brother Nicholas and my sister Jessica and I are asking for your support in helping our momma fight Neuroblastoma Cancer. As a family we have not fully processed this terrifying news. It is indeed surreal. We are hoping you will join us in fighting against this awful disease. ALL prayers, positive thoughts, encouraging words, helpful referrals, insights, anything at all is more than appreciated and definitely welcomed.
We want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read a small part of our mom, Sarah Breeze’s story.
Our dad Ronald passed away from type 1 juvenile diabetes when I was 8 years old, my sister was 6 and my brother 3. At this time our mom was 28 and just graduated from the police academy. She became a detective shortly after and eventually a juvenile probation officer. She is currently working as a Parent Aide at Arizona Baptist Children’s Services. She receives great satisfaction in being in a role that she can make a small difference in someone’s life. She finds her career very rewarding. She also is a substitute teacher at Winslow High School. She truly enjoys the engagement with the students and the creativity they have. Our mom would like to continue to work as long as possible. As well as coach and teach. However, being diagnosed with Neuroblastoma and the current treatment plan this will dramatically change that.
Our mom and dad started to build a home in Winslow, Arizona not far from our grandparents when our dad passed away. Unfortunately, our mom had to continue their dream of building a home alone. With the help of family over the years she has slowly became closer to fulfilling that dream.
Our mom Sarah has been passionate for the love of baseball and softball since she could walk. Her love stems from our grandfather Manfor Sedillo. She began playing baseball during her youth in Winslow, Az until a softball team was formed. We (my sister, brother and I) would watch her play co-ed softball for years as an adult. Great summer nights were spent in the parks of the small town we grew up in.
Her love was not only playing but coaching was her calling. She coached throughout the years with our Uncle David Sedillo (her brother) both high school and Little League. They won numerous championships and created bonds that are unforgettable. We lost our uncle in a car accident, our mom continued to coach with the same passion and love for the game they both shared-that our grandfather had taught them.
Our mom still coaches both basketball and baseball. She also is a board member of Winslow Little League. She was chosen as Little League 2019 Dedicatee. Unfortunately, 2019 was also the year she was hit accidentally by a softball on the left side of her face at a game. This injury caused a development of a tumor. Our mom painfully had removed in hopes it would not return. In hindsight we have discovered cancer grew.
February 24th, 2023, she had a biopsy in ShowLow, Arizona. We received the results Monday, March 6th of the pathology reports - they read positive for cancer. Our mom is now being treated at The Mayo Clinic in Phoenix for Olfactory Neuroblastoma Stage 2 Cancer. She will undergo surgery and radiation. We have learned Olfactory Neuroblastoma Cancer affects only about 1 person per 2.5 million each year. It is a rare form of cancer. There is a high risk she may lose her eyesight in the left eye preventing her from working or driving. As well as her brain being affected. After speaking with ENT surgeon Thursday, we were told her success rate of survival is 50%. We are hopeful for surgery within the next 3-4 weeks based on Neuro and ENT surgeon.
Being 3 hours away and her required to have time off work due to surgery and radiation she will need assistance. With your help our mom will be able to pay for medical treatments not covered by insurance, deductibles, copays, also help pay for her insurance premium due to her lapse in work as well as helping with gas, food, transportation. And to be transparent it will also be used for her mortgage and her monthly bills when she cannot work due to Scans, Surgery, Radiation. We are praying to alleviate even a fraction of her worries and stress in hopes that she may focus on healing and spending time with her family and friends.
Our mom is charismatic, empathetic, compassionate, loving, and extremely strong. She loves teaching, coaching and guiding. She is an amazing mother. Her love is unwavering and unconditional. We are blessed to have her beyond measure. Her love for her grandchildren is indescribable. She is the rock of our family. We truly would be lost without her. Words fail to express. She is very much needed and loved. She is giving person that is needing your help.
This takes us to a new vulnerability to receive this news, process the outcome and pray for the support of our family, friends and community. Most importantly we ask God for breakthroughs that will lead to better treatments and the eventual eradication of the destruction caused by cancer.
Our family appreciates your prayers and again thank you for taking the time to read a small part of our mom’s story. We will keep you updated as the days unfold. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or helpful insights.
I must add, this news is breathtaking. Writing each paragraph I find myself conflicted with emotions. Sadness, Anger , Heartache, Sorrow, Regret is among many. The realization this is real is painful.
“We find solace in our union with Christ’s suffering. We are all loved. “
