FRIENDS, FAMILY, NEIGHBORS, AND LOVED ONES: PLEASE HELP SARAH RECOVER

 

Early on the morning of Thursday, May 12th, our mom Sarah headed out for a walk with friends. Along the way, she attempted to clean up debris near the Long Island Sound and sustained an accidental fall which resulted in severe trauma to her brain, as well as multiple fractures to her skull, spine, sacrum, and pelvis. She was rushed to the hospital where she was admitted to the Trauma ICU.

 

Our mom is making progress and starting to seem more like herself, but we know it’s going to be a long recovery. Due to the injuries our mom sustained, she will likely be unable to return to work for up to a year. While we are fortunate to be able to be here in Rye to care for her at times, our mom is self-employed, lives alone, and will need financial support to cover medical bills, living expenses, and ongoing care.

 

The long-term prognosis of our mom's traumatic brain injury is still unknown, but we do know that receiving intensive rehabilitative care early on is essential. She’s in an acute TBI rehab program right now and will be participating in months of therapies to regain her physical strength and cognitive abilities to become self-sufficient again. She is motivated and understands that she has a long road ahead, and we hope to do all that we can to help her make steady progress.

 

In addition to being a wonderful and supportive mother, Sarah is a friend, athlete, avid cyclist, and extremely talented and experienced massage therapist. She is a giver, and one of the most caring and thoughtful people to all who know her and to those she newly meets. She always goes the extra mile, generously giving of herself to help others.
