Dude, where's my car?
On March 3rd, the same day I made a car payment for my little Subaru, my car was stolen outside my friend's apartment in Anchorage while it was running to warm it up from the harsh negative degrees. I was about to take my dog to the vet so he and I could cross the Canadian border with ease while we drive to LA. My car was completely filled with everything I own, every document, every piece of my favorite clothing, camping and bike touring gear, letters, sentimental stuff, EVERYTHING. Well, everything but my phone and my Damien husky and some stuff.
I was supposed to start the drive to LA on the 5th.
My car was stolen the 3rd.
I stayed a week loger to get a temporary ID and to make a lot of reports, check pawn shops, and try to figure out my life without my car and pretty much everything I own.
Here's what was in the car that I lost and approx. value:
-Dog crate (I got a wire crate free but I think a new one that is airline approves is about $150)
-Dog harness ($40)
-Big ol' bag of dog food ($50)
-Furminator dog brush ($50)
-Dog bed and blankets ($100 total?)
-Bike touring gear (2 front panniers and a back topeak bag, tons of bike tools, clip-in pedals) ($$? Probably well over a grand)
-Sleeping bag ($181)
-Blow up sleeping pad ($84.93)
-Hammock ($40?)
-Bivy sack ($100?)
-Climbing shoes ($70)
-Blankets and pillow ($50?)
-Clothes (All my wool stuff, layers, dresses, gosh it is probably so much $ combined)
-Medication and a prescription sheet for re-fills ($90?)
-Some NORTH SOUL TEA (Supplies and teas over $200)
-Kitchen stuff including a wicked nice blender ($70)
-Art Supplies- so many paints, marker and pen sets, canvases, paper, 15X15 vinyl for a mural, gluegun, xacto, lots of stuff ($$$? Probably a grand?)
-Hippy things that make me happy like crystals, candles, and essential oils (Priceless)
-I had over $500 cash in that car, my security deposit I just got back, and I took out cash for the trip to convert to Canadian cash.
-My passport (will cost over $200 to replace)
-All my IDs, license, old college IDs, gift cards, social security card, all my important docs like w2s and whatnot
-My deductible on car insurance is $1,000
-There's some stuff in there I can't replace with $ like letters from friends and family and my Grandmother who is no longer with us.
I feel really weird asking for stuff. I know people in the world have it way worse.
Thank you so much; I can't wait to be back on my feet so I can donate more of my time and $ to people who need it! I can't wait to get back in the swing of making art!
Please read the updates for more info on where this campaign money is going!
Thank you from the bottom of my car-and-stuff-less heart.
