Sarah's Medical Treatment Expenses

Donation protected
On September 1st 2018, Sarah woke up with severe chest pain and went to the doctor.  After an X-Ray was taken, she was rushed to the ER where she learned she had a Spontaneous Pneumothorax in her right lung.

This unpredictable medical issue occurs when a small sac of air in the lungs ruptures, causing air to escape into the chest cavity which collapses the lung.

Sarah's right lung had collapsed. She immediately had a tube inserted into her chest to let air escape the chest cavity and allow her lung to re-expand. After 5 days in the hospital, her lung had healed and she was released to go home. The doctors advised there was no specific trauma that triggered the Pneumothorax. They explained some individuals, like Sarah, are more prone to the condition and it was likely to happen again.

In the beginning of November, Sarah had a second Spontaneous Pneumothroax in her right lung.  This time, along with getting another chest tube, she had to undergo preventative surgery on her right lung.
In an effort to stop this from happening again, the surgery consisted of stapling the lung, removing a piece of the lung, and sealing her lung to her chest wall with a process called Pleurodesis. With surgery and treatment, Sarah spent a week in the hospital to recover and work with a physical therapist to help her walk.

In total, Sarah has had 2 week long hospital stays and 8+ visits to doctors and specialists in the last 4 months. These health issues have taken a toll not only physically, but also mentally. Her day-to-day has been affected, preventing her from returning to regular work and also created a struggle to focus on her coursework.

As draining as it has been, receiving the medical bills caused a new wave of stress and anxiety. In her recent move to Austin, TX, Sarah never expected to incur $14,000 worth of hospital expenses. We hope to help ease the stress of financial obligations during a time where she only should have to focus on getting better. I am hoping for a healthy and happy 2019 for my best friend and appreciate all help involved in making that a reality. :)
