Hello Everyone!
My name is Sarah and I am a 24 year old graduate from Early Childhood Education (ECE). As an African- Canadian born and raised in the Canada I was oblivious to the kind of world my parents left to come over to the “promise land” to give myself and my siblings a hope and a better future. In 2012 I had an opportunity to visit one of Africa’s biggest nations, the country of South Africa. Unaware of the needs and issues of the people of South Africa, I thought that I would just be exploring the land and helping out where I could. That type of thinking immediately came to a stop when I stepped foot in an orphanage, in a town called Midrand, located in the outskirts of Johannesburg. Little did I know that from that day on, the way I perceived the world would change! After spending 5 weeks looking after impoverished orphaned children, and some children who suffered from HIV/AIDS, I decided that I wanted to be on the front lines trying to help abolish child poverty and find forever homes for children who had no families all over Africa, Asia, and North America. Growing up Canadian, one of the toughest decisions I ever had to make is the choice of what I want to be when I am older. That decision was made when I heard a story about a 19 year old mother, who had the hardest time making the decision of giving up her 4 month old baby, because she was dying of HIV. She loved her daughter so much and was willing to take care of her miracle baby for however long she had to live. Sadly, she passed away and her daughter was brought to the orphanage I was volunteering at. When I saw this baby’s face, I remember just seeing a light from her eyes. I don’t know why but I felt the uttermost connection to this baby, and I vowed to love her the same way her mother loved her. I vowed to love the “unlovable”.
Now that I am finished school, I am very excited to announce that I have recently accepted a year-long position at Botshabelo. Excitement doesn’t even begin to describe the joy that I am experiencing. On the 1st of January I will be moving to South Africa for a year of caring for God’s children!
There are two ways I would like to be supported in this upcoming year. Firstly, I need prayer support while I am living in South Africa. Please pray for safety, spiritual growth and the ability to love the children unconditionally. Secondly, I am seeking financial support. I am raising $5,000.00 in order to help pay for my living expenses, and health and medical insurance. My hope is to impact the community that I am serving and to fill the hearts of the children with love by giving them a sense of acceptance. Please consider giving whatever you can to this cause either through prayer or financial aid. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thank You and God Bless.
