Most of you know that I was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules about 8 years ago and I have been living (and singing) with them all this time.
Vocal nodules are callouses that develop in the vocal cords due to overuse and can result in hoarseness, loss of voice, tiredness, and limited vocal range. Although I was only diagnosed 8 years ago, I have had these issues for as long as I can remember.
I have tried various remedies such as speech therapy and have taken voice lessons from specialists in order to reverse the issue; however, as I visited my voice doctor recently, she highly recommended that I have the nodules surgically removed because it has gone past the point of being remedied by therapy. This came as a surprise, and is now becoming an unexpected expense for me.
When my doctor told me that I didn't know how it felt to be able to sing without effort and that this was the best my voice could ever be, my heart sank.. I love performing, but I do admit that it is very physically demanding because of the nodules. Worst case scenario, it will worsen over time. My voice is my instrument and it helps pay my bills, and this is the only way to save it.
Most of you also know that I am going back to school to study Music Therapy this Fall. With school bills coming up and my hours of working having to decrease because of school, I need your financial support. This surgery is not covered by insurance, and needs to be paid in full (out of pocket) by July 27, 2018.
Any amount will help greatly, and if you cannot give financially, I ask for your support through your prayers. My surgery is scheduled for August 3, 2018, and hopefully I will be back singing soon; but this time with a healthier instrument.
Thank you.
Sarah
